Tigran II the Great The name of Tigran II the Great is forever inscribed in the book of the history of mankind, as one of the triumphs of the Ancient World. Tigran the Great was born around 142-140. BC He came from the famous royal family Artashesides, being the son of Tigran I and the grandson of the very Artashes I - the founder of the dynasty, a famous reformer and conqueror. The Tigran II Empire stretched from the Kura River and the Caspian Sea to the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. No wonder they said that "the king of kings" commanded his country "from sea to sea". Tigran II can undoubtedly be called the tsar-town planner. He knew how to not only conquer the magnificent cities with centuries of history, but also build new ones that are not inferior to the latter in beauty, riches and splendor. An example of this is his main creation - the city of Tigranakert. Tigran the Great could become a symbol for Armenians. A symbol of the victorious power of a truly great Armenia, the king of kings, who, for a short time, caused the whole Middle East and the Ancient World to shudder. And his name will be immortal.
