Vardan Mamikonyan

The bust is dedicated to Vardan Mamikonian (388-451), an outstanding Armenian military leader, prince, and national hero, who led the Armenian rebellion against the Iranian Sassanids. Vardan Mamikonian is a key figure in Armenian history, whose name is closely associated with heroism and unwavering love for his homeland. He was the sparapet (commander-in-chief) of the Armenian troops during the Battle of Avarayr (May 26, 451), which took place on the banks of the Tkhmut River in the province of Vaspurakan (gavar Artaz). This artistic representation of the outstanding commander is a tribute to a hero whose name will forever remain in history as a symbol of courage, bravery, and unwavering love for his homeland.
