Figurine of Saint Gayane

The statuette is dedicated to Saint Gayane (Gayane), the abbess of a convent, the spiritual mentor of Saint Hripsime, and one of the first Christian martyrs in Armenia. Her life and death became the cornerstone of Armenian church tradition: along with 35 other virgins, she was martyred for her faith in the early 4th century, establishing the veneration of virgin ascetics in the Armenian Apostolic Church. The statuette embodies the image of fortitude, maternal care for her spiritual children, and fidelity to Christ.
